Fantastic interview Mikala and Alex. I’m going to show this to my husband as he has expressed similar sentiments about labeling and the idea of feelings about his body are like low-level static. Thanks again for sharing.
"I am honestly amazed how much of my day is spent in conversation with the hatred of/desire to change my body. Like…most of the day! It’s a religion, and I am forever fallen in sin of not having the perfect bod9. Not great."
Yes. This. I know exactly what I'd do if I had millions for plastic surgery. To the detail. Since about 1986 or so? I can clearly remember the last time I ate pizza when it was just pizza and not "should-i-eat-this-izza" I'm certainly not glad to hear that you've struggled with it, but I'm also feeling a sense of solidarity that I might not have know was there if you hadn't shared it. And also why are we all like this?
This was an excellent interview. Cishet white masculinity comes with privilege - and a price. This post from an honest personal trainer living in my home town might offer some interesting viewing. (Was he too honest?)
Gosh this hits on so many levels. All week I've been writing about a grandparent who was also on the bod police squad and I did not know this was a shared experience!! Thank you both for making these murky shame zones a bit brighter, and lovable too 💜
thank you for giving me an inroad to explore this stuff more Mikala it's very hard to write about!!
Was a PLEASURE to read your words.

Thank you Sarah!

I love when trainers share things like this!

And it will only get worse with time. As a great prophet once said, you won’t look good naked anymore.
Omg!!! The grandparent visit!!!! Every damn year- wanting to lose weight for the family. I just talked to my cousins about this. Ugh!
